I just gagged up blood?

So I was brushing my teeth and tongue when I got a little vigorous with the brush and gagged some. Blood came out. I looked for a cut on my tongue but couldn't find any. I've been somewhat restrictive in the food intake lately and was wondering if this had anything to do with the blood. Thanks!
