Please help! Exercise and weight loss advice?

I really need to shift the pounds I weigh 169 pounds and want to lose 40 pounds. I eat pretty healthy already and have just brought an elliptical trainer as it is the only type of cardio I enjoy. What do you think I should do to see results? I don't believe in restrictive or fad diets. How long do you think it will take me? Is it possible? Opinions please and thanks as I have gained this weight over the last 4 years and can't believe if I will see results or what I should do. Thanks for reading :-)
